GORRAM! That is just totally fucked up. Was it the Amurikan guards or his Canadian side guards? Doesn't really make a hill o' beans which, the damage is done. But I fully expect it was the Amurikans (and yes kids, I am intentionally spelling it that way ... I do when I get pissed and ashamed of my own 'countrymen'. I use that term loosely also, as it implies I want or have any identifying kinship with fucks of their ilk).
I was harassed and detained for 3 hours with a friend in the 70's for, what was later admitted to me confidentially by one guard, as simply looking like 'no-good, long-haired hippies'. Once inside, they told us that their 'electronic surveillance' alerted to possible drugs in the car.
Okay now, we're talking 1974 era electronics ... which consisted of 8-track tapes the size of a toddler's head and $400. Hewlett-Packard handheld calculators with the memory capacity of a box of rocks! Computers had their own 6 acre, air-conditioned buildings and operated on a whopping 512k of memory, at best and bodies threw manual switches to make tube-type resistor on/off settings. And this shit detected possible drugs in our car 50 feet from the closest building. Uh huh, right. And Nixon was an honest and competent President too! Does anyone wonder why we stayed fucking stoned in those days?
They did unrecompensed damage to my friends classic, mint, split-window VW Beetle in the process of 'inspecting' it, which is a border-guard euphemism for 'lets tear this fucking car to pieces ... and they proceeded to do so with gusto. After being released from separate holding rooms (read: cells), with no charges or apologies, we found his back seat full of the car's parts that were literally ripped off in the process. My friend asked for restitution and was answered by a loud guffaw from the 'destruction derby team'. In fact, one asstard leaned close in the driver window and said if we knew what was good for us, we'd haul ass out of their, pronto! ... we Pronto'd pretty damn quick!
Goddamn, I hope the Canucks have some sort of Legal Aid-type shit up there for Peter. I usually have great respect and admiration for how the Canadian government takes care of it's citizens.
I guess the only positive thing out of his ordeal will be (hopefully) some great writing material!
Sorry this turned into a bitch-session for me everybody ... I calls it Carpe Blogem ... heh
Please keep us updated here as things develop Sunday. I wish your friend well.
Luv ya kiddo,
yer no-good, over-the-hill-hippy Dada & his master, Atmo
